Computer-Cut Vinyls
Fresh Print specializes in the production of inscriptions and stickers using plotter cutting technology. This process utilizes specialized machines and software to ensure precision and speed in production.
So, what exactly are computer-cut graphics?
They encompass a variety of items, including inscriptions, images, logos, various types of lines, geometric shapes, and symbols in all sizes and forms. These graphics are made from different types of self-adhesive film, with variations in color, texture, opacity, and flexibility, depending on the intended application and desired effects. The maximum size of the graphics is determined by the width of the plotter and the dimensions of the material used.
What are they used for?
Computer-cut vinyl products have a wide range of applications and are a cost-effective solution for advertising products, brands, companies, and services. They can also be used for directions, messages, warnings, decoration, and artistic purposes. These products can be applied to various surfaces, including vehicles, shop windows and doors, signs, walls, floors, furniture, advertising stands, bus stops, public buildings, banners, clothing, production areas, and machinery, among others.
How is it done?
Vinyl cutting is performed using special machines known as cutting plotters. These modern, precise machines are controlled by computers and specialized software. They utilize fine cutting tools to cut graphic images to the desired size or contour with high accuracy. In addition to cutting plotters, flatbed CNC cutters are frequently employed for vinyl cutting as well. The depth of the cut depends on the type of material being used and its intended application. To fully detach stickers, the machine cuts through the entire thickness of the material, allowing the finished sticker to be separated from the excess material. When cutting letters or a combination of images and characters, only the base and adhesive layers of the vinyl film are cut, while the release liner is left intact. This technique, known as kiss-cutting, allows the removal of unnecessary parts from the top layer, which carries the color and effects of the vinyl. It ensures that only the essential portions, shaped like letters, symbols, or other images, remain intact. These elements stay in their original positions since they are still adhered to the bottom layer of film meant to be peeled off during installation.
What are the advantages of computer-cut film?
Computer-cut film offers several advantages as a cost-effective means of conveying visual information. It is known for its durability, water resistance, and vibrant, long-lasting colors and effects. Additionally, there are many types of vinyl available for various applications, each with its own level of durability.
The most commonly used types of vinyl for cutting
The most commonly used types of vinyl for cutting vary based on their intended applications.
Films for cutting and printing have distinct properties that suit specific needs.
Monomeric films are suitable for installation on flat surfaces, where high stretchability is not essential, and they offer a more cost-effective option. However, there may be specific requirements related to effects, adhesive strength, usage duration, and installation methods, which can influence the choice of materials.
For surfaces with complex shapes or textures—such as vehicles, machinery, or fence panels—polymeric or cast vinyls are preferred due to their superior plasticity and stretchability. These vinyls also come with various characteristics tailored to specific requirements.
Some vinyl types can be interchangeable for cutting or printing, while others are explicitly designed for one application. They are available in white or a wide spectrum of colors, with varying levels of transparency, textures (smooth or textured), and finishes (glossy or matte).
Popular effects include frosted finishes (available in different shades and smoothness), metallic finishes, and patterns that mimic various surfaces such as wood, stone, and metals. Frosted vinyl is commonly used for doors and showcases to display working hours, inscriptions, images, and simulated frosted surfaces. Reflective vinyl is utilized for specialized vehicles like police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks, as well as on trucks, cars, signs, and any applications where high visibility is necessary in low-light conditions.
How is it installed?
Installation methods vary depending on the type of product and its intended use. For instance, with ordinary stickers, the process is straightforward: you peel off the protective paper backing and apply the sticker directly to the desired surface. When installing inscriptions, combinations of symbols, or other multi-component designs, it’s important to use application tape. This tape is placed over the cut graphic to ensure that all components remain in their correct positions during the transfer to the mounting surface. Initially, the graphics are held in place by the backing paper. Once the backing is removed, the application tape allows for the smooth transfer of the graphic without displacing any individual elements. After the installation is complete, the application tape is no longer needed and can be removed and discarded.
Mandatory Requirements for Preparing Signs or Stickers for Opening Hours:
In accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, every commercial establishment must display a sign in a prominent location at the entrance. This sign should include the following information:
1. Opening hours and holidays
2. The name of the company (as a legal entity)
3. The registered address of the company
4. The name of the materially responsible person
It is essential that all of this information is included in the design of the sign.
