Banner printing
What is banner material made of?
Banner material is typically made from vinyl-coated fabric, which is specifically designed for large format printing. “Vinyl” or “PVC” refers to Polyvinyl Chloride, and both terms are accurate.
There are different types of vinyl banners based on the production process:
– Laminated Banners: These are created through double-sided hot lamination of polyester, nylon, or even silk fibers with layers of vinyl. They are designed for short-term applications.
– Cast Banners: These are produced by pouring molten vinyl paste onto a reinforcing fabric. The paste includes plasticizers, colorants, mold and water repellents, and UV protection agents. Cast banners are of the highest quality but are also more expensive and used less frequently. Vinyl banner material can be either coated or uncoated. Coated banners have a special protective surface, ensuring a longer lifespan and are recommended for long-term use. The material is available in a variety of widths ranging from 1.05 to 5 meters and comes in different weights per square meter, depending on the density and thickness of the reinforcing fabrics. Banners can also have either a semi-glossy or matte finish.
Based on their intended use, there are three main types of banners:
• Frontlit: These are advertising materials designed to be illuminated from the front. They are the most versatile and suitable for both outdoor and indoor advertising.
• Backlit: These materials are intended to be lit from behind, offering a light diffusion effect. They are used to create illuminated advertisements and light boxes for both outdoor and indoor settings.
• Blockout: This type of vinyl is opaque, allowing for double-sided printing.
